An Honoring of MentorsJuly 9, 2020
By: Horace Anding
Wow, my first blog entry ever and I was really trying to think of what to discuss. That’s when I got inspired by a song entitled “Will” by Joyner Lucas. He wrote this song about his idol Will Smith and pays homage to how much Will inspires him. He inspires him so much that they made a remix with Will Smith rapping (something he hadn’t done in over three years).
This song made me think about my mentors and those people who inspire me. I thought about why I became a mentor, as well. I am a mentor because I want to give back to my community, help the next generation to do great things. My mentors inspire me because of how they carry themselves, how they are with their families, and how giving they are are to others. They carry themselves in a way that just makes me want to do better.
So today I want to give my mentors their moment in the sun…..Anthony Terry, Sean Booker, Darrin Cook, Michael Edwards, and Steve Norris. Thank you for all that you do. But as mentors, we should hope to inspire those young people to want to do better and live better lives and help make our communities better. This line of work is not often appreciated but I want to take this time to honor every mentor reading this blog and thank you for your work and dedication to help make a difference in other people lives. Let’s continue to work to help make a positive impact in our community.
